Some Highlights from The Paint Company's "Quality" Work
On this page, I present some of the pictures I quickly took when I walked around the house after the Paint Company painted my house.
In this picture, you can see just a sample of the two tones of paint
that resulted after they painted my house. This picture is beside the door
(door on the right). When I talked about this, The Paint Company
simply said that it was not possible to make the paint look
right, because the color white that I asked them to use was different
than what was their previously. I can guarantee you that if I had
painted this myself (and I have before!) that there would be
one perfect color right here.
You recall that Ken was defensive about paint being spilled on the floor,
even though I never raised the point. Well, I'll raise the point
here. See this paint? This is courtesy of the Paint Company.
I asked the crew to remove this downspout and attach it properly to
the house. It was removed and not properly attached after The
Paint Company's recomended carpenter did not put it back correctly
one month prior. He told me that the Paint Company would remove
it and paint and put it back, so I did not care. As it turns out,
when The Paint Company says they remove downspouts, they do not mean
they really remove them. As the crew was not accustomed to doing this
work-- which is trivial-- they somehow scratched the damn thing.
This above picture actually has a couple of problems: the paint
is just slopped on (you can see it piled up) and there are two
colors of white.
See the top of the eves up there? If those were actually painted, they
would not appear to be black or brown right after having been painted.
I have no idea what this is on the newly painted rails, but it looks
nasty, doesn't it? It's all around on the rails. It might be oil,
it might be something coming through the paint (though it appears
to be on the surface), or it could just be some crap spilled on there.
Whatever it is, it appears on this newly painted rail. The rail
actually is white, in spite of this picture... it wasn't as bright
outside as it should have been.
Either they did not paint this area on the porch at all, or those
bugs can build a house in a hurry. I'll let you decide.
It is a little hard to see in this photo, but this is another example of
where they didn't paint very well.
I paid the guys to paint the shutters. When they put them back onto the
house, they did not afix them correctly. As you can see here, this one
is not connected on one corner.
As I mentioned in the article, the I hired a guy to
do some wood work. He looked at this corner and said that it needed
to be sprayed to kill mold/mildew and then painted to protect
the wood, otherwise this board would likely have to be replaced
in a few years. As you can see, The Paint Company did not do
anything to the under-side of this board. Of course, I did not
tell them, but they gave me no chance to tell them before they
declared "we're finished!"
I have no idea what this crap is in my yard, but it belongs to The Paint
Company.
Just more crap.
This is a newly painted board. I have no idea what they did here.
Perhaps it's dirt? Whatever the case, this is not "finished".
See those gashes in the gutter? Those were not there before. In fact,
as far as I know, nobody has ever put a ladder againt that gutter before
The Paint Company showed up.
Here is an example of more wood they did not paint.
Something makes me think they did not paint under over over the
window sills. One would think that those holes would have
been filled and properly painted.
There is white paint on my screen around the back porch now.
As clearly evidenced in the above shots, they did not make any attempt
whatsoever to paint the lattice.
They were supposed to putty the nail holed and paint. They did a
half-assed job at it. It's definitely not a smooth surface.
I was really quite irritated to find paint on the back stairs. All
of this paint you see on the stairs is thanks to The Paint Company
Apparently, they did remove the downspout here, because it
is not fastened correctly. It's hard to say. Maybe somebody else
did this mess. Either way, it should have been connected correctly,
not like this.
The carpenter I hired put putty in the hold behind this downspout.
Clearly, the guys made no attempt to clean this up and paint it properly.
One of the more important issues I had was filling this crack in the
wall and painting it. In fact, I asked them to buy a bucket of paint
primarily for this reason. Note that they did nothing here.
Around the back porch, Ken highlighted the fact that the white caulk
should have been painted the color of the house to look better. He said
he'd have his guys do that. They did not.
On the back eves, they also failed to paint-- either that or they
got dirty very, very quickly.
This painted bracked it brand new. It's less than 1 month old. They
did not hesitate to paint over it. Argh! Why could they not remove it
or use tape or something?
This corner board appears to be partially painted. I'm not sure if
they did it or it was that way when the house was built. In any case,
it needs more paint.
The said they were finished! Would you look at this!?!?! Geez!
This is over the garage. Now, it just might be that they did not think
to paint this, because the color is that of the house. I considered
this "trim", though they did not since it was not white on top. However,
the contract we signed said they would also paint "overhangs" and I
would surely think one cannot argue that this "overhangs" the garage.
In any case, I paid for paint to match that color. I expected this
to be painted and honestly did not know the color before I climbed
up on the ladder myself.
On the front porch, they painted over a screw. Just one, though. Not
sure why.
In this shot, you can see how they painted too heavily here and spilled
it over onto the windows inside the house. This is really a mess. (It was
me who grabbed the semi-dry paint strip and yanked it up, so you can
clearly see it is new.
This is one of my favorite shots. You can see through the painted-up
window the little wagon The Paint Company used to carry their supplies.
The quality here reflects the kind of work they do... and having their
equipment in the background just made this the most excellent shot
of the evening.
